Jemma Bartram – 16

Hair Stylist

post1Jemma started with Academy of Hair and Beauty 16-19 Study Programme after leaving school. She wanted to build her confidence and gain further qualifications in English to help her progress into an Apprenticeship in Hairdressing. This was achieved and Jemma undertook a work placement with a salon close to her home. After only a few weeks the salon where that impressed that they took Jemma on as an apprentice. She is now working towards her NVQ Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship in Hairdressing. Jemma says “The help an support that I received from Academy staff was excellent and helped me become more confident in talking to others and dealing with people over the phone, I am now looking at completing my level 2 and going on to do level 3”.

Mollie Hannibal – 18


mollieMollie began her training with Academy on Foundation Learning where she gained her English and Maths Functional Skills and worked towards an NVQ Level 1 in hairdressing and barbering. She then completed work placements to help her improve her social skills and gain extra knowledge of working in a salon. She returned to Academy after completing her training after gaining an Apprenticeship in Burton. She says of her time and support here, “The tutors where great at teaching me to be more hard working and to concentrate in class. I really wanted to come back and do an apprenticeship, and succeeded”.

Jessica Gamble – 16

Academy of Hair, Beauty and Nails - Jessica GambleJess originally looked at starting the 16-19 Study Programme to help her progress to an apprenticeship in hairdressing, but on completing some initial job searching with the tutors she gained a level 2 apprenticeship in a salon in Derby. “I enjoy working at my salon and getting to know new people. The Academy staff are always helpful and give you the skills you need to get on in hairdressing”.
